Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you could ever want to know about Assembly, our sessions and the sport of Pickleball

What is Pickleball?

Pickleball is a fun, inclusive racquet sport invented in the US in 1965. It is played on a badminton court. Pickleball blends elements of tennis, table tennis and badminton, but is more accessible than any of them.

Is it like Padel?

Padel is a sport played on an enclosed court. It is much like a cross between tennis and squash, where the ball can bounce off the glass wall or metallic mesh that surrounds the court.

I'm new to Racquet Sports, is that a problem?

Not at all. Pickleball is the most accessible of all the racquet sports, and Assembly Pickleball club is designed with inclusion and accessibility at its core. Take a look at our values and philosophy here to see how seriously we take building a community to welcome newcomers of all levels.

Where do you play?

We run regular sessions in Didsbury, wtih new venues planned in Sale, Chorlton, and Prestwich in the next few months. Since Pickleball is highly portable we also do pop-up, festival and corporate events around Manchester. Sign up to our mailing list for news on where you can play next.

Do I need to be a member?

Not at all. Sessions can be booked individually via our booking page here, and there is no long-term commitment.

We're currently developing a membership tier for our regular members.

What are the sessions like?

Our Sunday Sessions are very beginner friendly and consist of coaching, socialising and some mixed games. Our goal is to get you playing as soon as possible, introducing rules as you gain confidence in your abilities. The team and regulars will do everything to help you get started.

What do I wear? Do I need my own kit?

We provide all the kit, nets and equipment and our Sunday Sessions include coaching as part of the entry fee. Wear something that helps you move easily about the court, along with indoor / non-marking trainers.

“What stands out about Assembly is that its a safe space for people to start playing Pickleball. I'm not aware of other places that are so open in that way."
